AMC to support student upto Rs. 5 lakh if the idea clicks to solve local problems

Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will support upto Rs. 5 lakh if any student bring any application having idea to solve traffic and other local problems. Smt. D. Thara, Municipal Commissioner of Ahmedabad announced today. AMC also thinking to organise a hack-a-thon for making Ahmedabad a Smart City.

She was speaking at GTU Central TechFest 2016, organized by Gujarat Technological University, GTU Innovation Council and Vishwakarma Government Engineering College in association with L D College of Engineering and L M College of Pharmacy at Vishwakarma Government Engineering College, Chandkheda. Total 12,000 students visited the TechFest. She said that Reality most often differs than actually we know. Whenever we try any idea it must suit with local environment. India is a beautiful country with beautiful opportunities. So students should change their perception and observe near you. There is need for networking of institutions.

Dr. Sudhir Jain, Director, IIT Gandhinagar said on the occasion that nowadays students are much smarter than old people. Earlier knowledge was controlled through books, but now we have wi-fi age. Event like TechFest gives student attitude and values. He advised students to think differently and inclusively.

Dr. Sunil Shukla, Director of EDI said that thousands of ideas are generated, but if it is helpful to society, then aim of such TechFest will be fulfilled. India will now become number 1 in Entrepreneurs movement. Similar movement was started in Gujarat in the year 1969. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given the slogan of Start up India, Stand up India. We are now using Start up India slogan for new entrepreneurs, while Stand up India for existing entrepreneurs. EDI has recently organised entrepreneurship fair, received encouraging response.

Dr. Akshai Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor of GTU said that this is the second best TechFest in India. GTU is considered as a benchmark for technological universities. University is tested every day in its laboratories and class-rooms. It is only the excellence achieved by our students, researchers and Faculty Members, in their work that can make the University great. This requires hard work, this requires dedication and commitment by the management and this demands continuous and disciplined work from the students. GTU has introduced Design Thinking in syllabus and presently 80,000 students are studying it. We have also started School of Smart Cities in which training has been given to municipal officers of 8 states.

Principal of VGEC, Dr. Rajul Gajjar said that GTU has planned 100 points programme, which includes points for participation in such programmes. We have competition of All Terrain Vehicle (ATV), which is Amateur Formula One race.  30 ATVs from across the country are participating. This is the first time that an event of this scale and variation has been organised in the state. An unprecedented number of 70 Start Ups have already registered. Prize Money worth 1 lacs+ in this event is the boost which creates the adrenaline rush in the contestants.

Dr. G.P. Vadodaria, Principal of L.D. College of Engineering, Shri Yajuvendrasinh and students as well as faculty members were present in inauguration ceremony. Shri J.C. Lilani, I/c Registrar of GTU presented Vote of Thanks. GTU Conclave on ‘Smart Cities-The future of living’ also started today. The basic idea of this Conclave is to invite Experts who will give lecture with a view to know the basic idea of it and to come to a conclusion. For this, a panel discussion is arranged in which the experts will be representing their ideas and views. The Entrepreneurial summit comprises of start-up fair, Panel discussion and events. This summit is to attract investors and incubators for giving a jump start to the basic but innovative idea of the student.
